At the heart of everything we do is our Catholic faith. It shapes how we teach and permeates everything we do within and beyond the classroom. Learning what it means to be a Christian in general, and a Catholic Christian in particular, distinguishes our students from their counterparts — it goes far beyond academics. The faith we help build as parents and educators will serve our children not only in this life, but the next, and it is by far the most important thing we do. Understanding God in Christ helps children better understand themselves and navigate the world in which they live. Through daily prayer, religious instruction, and attending Mass, your child will come to know Jesus Christ and His ever-faithful love for us. There is no greater gift you can give your child than an excellent education that includes faith formation.
Catholic liturgy, sacraments, traditions, and prayer are taught at St. Elizabeth School as an integral part of the school’s curriculum. All students attend Mass as a school community each Friday morning. Each week a different homeroom prepares and performs the weekly Friday morning Mass known as the Children’s Liturgy. Additionally, special Masses and liturgies are celebrated throughout the year. Parents, as an important part of our faith community, are invited and encouraged to attend all liturgies.
St. Elizabeth School is proud to offer traditional devotions which support the Catholic faith. All students are encouraged to participate in these devotions to the best of their ability. These devotions include:
the Rosary, Prayer Services, Jesse Tree, Catholic Schools Week Liturgy, Ash Wednesday, Adoration, Benediction, and May Crowning.
Students in 2nd grade prepare for and receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. Each of these special occasions is scheduled on a specific Saturday during the school year. Students in 8th grade prepare through school religion classes and other activities to receive the sacrament of Confirmation which takes place during a specific weekend Mass during the school year.
Every month we exemplify and practice a different virtue at St. Elizabeth Catholic School. Teachers will nominate students whom they observe living out the virtue for the monthly Christian Witness Award. One student from each class will be recognized during a Friday Children’s Liturgy on a monthly basis.
