St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic School is blessed to have multiple resources which enhance the development of the whole child. The humanities program promotes enthusiasm, self-esteem, skill acquisition, and enhancement of the academic curriculum. The program provides our students with an opportunity to highlight their talents in art, Spanish, music, computer science, and physical education.
The Art program at St. Elizabeth offers students the opportunity to understand, interpret and appreciate the visual arts while also exploring their creative potential through hands-on art projects. The art program emphasizes the exploration and manipulation of art materials along with an exposure to a new visual language, perceptions, materials, and the world of art and artists.
The Library Media Center at St. Elizabeth is central to the school’s total educational mission. As such, it is considered as part of the whole teaching program and fully integrated into the curriculum. The mission of the Library Media Center is to serve the educational goals and objectives by providing a learning environment to meet school library standards and to promulgate Christian and Catholic values through access and information literacy instruction in both print and non-print formats, for students, teachers, staff, administrators, and parents.
“Welcome to Spanish class! For our new families, my name is Rosa Barrientos, and this is my 25th year teaching Spanish at St. Elizabeth. I am excited to see our returning students and very happy for the opportunity to get to know our new students and their families. I am looking forward to a blissful and dynamic school year. My objective this year is to provide all of my students with an academically stimulating, yet enjoyable experience.”
The goal of the physical education program is to help students develop a positive attitude toward physical activity and healthy habits. Students are expected to participate to the best of their ability in a wide variety activities, which will give them the confidence to pursue other competitive sports and activities.
Our goal at St. Elizabeth School is to introduce the fundamental concepts of Computer Science to all students. We begin with keyboarding and feel it is an important skill that improves writing competency. Coding has also become an essential part of the CS curriculum and often leads to improvement in “soft skills” like perseverance and problem-solving. Coding has actually been offered for many years at St. Elizabeth School. In the 1980’s, BASIC and LOGO were in the curriculum, followed in the 1990’s with HTML. So many new programs are available now; we begin coding in Kindergarten with apps such as Kodable, Lightbot and A.L.E.X. Older students study the still-popular LOGO, followed by MIT’s Scratch, Python, JaveJS, HTML and CSS. St. Elizabeth School offers robotics classes and after-school club activities. At St. Elizabeth School we strive to serve students with a well-rounded Computer Science Curriculum.
