From the Front Office

Here are a few  things  observed from the front office on a daily basis

Arrivals

Students who arrive early and are prepared in the mornings are much happier children throughout the day. Our doors open at 7:15 a.m. The 1st bell rings at 7:50 (students go to class and prepare for their day). The TARDY bell rings at 8:00 a.m. and school promptly begins. All students not in the classroom at 8:00 a.m. are given a tardy. Every three tardies equal one absence!

Lost clothing

How can kids lose so many things? Our Lost and Found is over- flowing on a regular basis. At least four times a year we try to return items that are labeled. Please LABEL your kids’ clothing!!!! Things with labels are easier to return.

Cash  – $$$$$$$

Loose cash gets lost!!!! When sending money with your student, please use an envelope. It MUST be labeled with the child’s name and its purpose. Young children and small change don’t mix well! If at all possible, send the correct amount. The office does not keep cash readily available.

Calendar – Use the magnet calendar as your reference guide for buck-a-jean days, vacation days, noon dismissal, and teacher in-service. The calendar is subject to change and notice of changes are sent via RenWeb announcements.

Forgotten homework, assignments, glasses, etc.

Please prepare the night before! Ask your student to set out or pack up all necessary items needed for school the night before so you will not be rushing around in the morning. Most families travel a long way to St. Elizabeth, and that extra trip costs money!!

Lunches

Fast food or outside lunches are not allowed at St. Elizabeth. Students may purchase a lunch from DineRite or bring a lunch box. Daily deliveries of forgotten lunches are strongly discouraged. Parents may visit their student occasionally as a special treat for the child; however, frequent visits are discouraged. Please keep in mind that lunchtime is also social time for students.  Please open an account and keep a small amount in the account for emergencies. PK – 2nd grade may order hot lunch only and not the ala-carte items.  3rd - 8th may order any item on the menu that day.

Car-LineMornings

Please don’t enter the car-line unless your child is ready to get out. Parents have been observed signing papers, fixing hair, or still packing the backpack while others are waiting to move forward.  No cell phones in the car-line, please!!

Car-Line – Afternoon

Students are assigned a cone to stand at over the bull horn, please wait until your child is at the appropriate cone before encouraging them to load.  Please remain in your vehicle during car-line.  Teachers have duties during dismissal, so please do not conference with a teacher during dismissal.

Please use these helpful tips each day!

Did you know?  And Little Known Facts!

Tardy vs. Absent!! To avoid a tardy slip, did you know students can go into their classrooms at 7:50?  They are considered tardy at 8:00 if not in their classroom.  Students maybe dropped off as early as 7:15 and wait in the cafeteria until 7:50 at which time they may get ready for their day. Teachers are on duty for supervision.  Please be aware that three tardies equal one absence! An absent student needs to be reported to the office by 8:30 and requests for homework are made at that time.  Homework is collected throughout the day and is available at the front desk after 3:10.

Did you know??? All adults must be cleared through the Diocesan safe environment program to volunteer at the school.  We need our volunteers; however, we must abide by the Diocesan rules, too!  Contact the office for instructions.

Volunteering? How can I volunteer?  We need lots of volunteers!  Our clinic needs to be staffed every day all day long to serve the needs of our students; i.e., ice packs, band-aids, temps and tummy aches are the most common needs & ailments.  If the clinic is not staffed, the duties fall on the office which is already extremely busy.  Please contact Estella Martinez at ext. 28 to find out more about how you can help in the clinic.

More opportunities to volunteer — Book Fairs – Mrs. Connelly does a fantastic job creating an atmosphere according to the “theme” of the book fair.  However she needs help!  Lot’s of help.  There is one coming soon so if you are safe environment cleared, it’s a fun and easy way to volunteer.

Dine-Rite Lunch Accounts!! EVERYONE should have an account.  In the event of an emergency, i.e. forgotten lunch, the student can simply order a hot lunch to avoid having to bring one back.  Keep a little money on the account in case of emergencies.

PK 3 thru 2nd Grade Lunches: If a student of this age level orders a hot lunch they can only choose from the Hot Lunch portion of the menu.  Additional items are not available for this age group.

3rd – 8th Grades may order Hot Lunch, Ala Carte, Baked Potato or Salad. Thank you for following this system when ordering lunches.

As always, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

We are off to a great year! Students are doing so well in the mornings going to their classrooms eager to learn.

Allow me to use this forum to remind parents of a few things we are trying to implement this year.

FAST FOOD LUNCHES: As stated in an email several weeks ago we ask that parents no longer bring lunches from fast food places.  We have so many students waiting and looking for lunches that never show up.  DineRite then has to feed additional children who did not order a lunch.

SICK STUDENTS & HOMEWORK REQUESTS:  Students that are absent need to be called in as absent between 8:30 -9:00 am.  At that time please request homework to be collected.  Homework is available for pickup from 3:10 until 6:00 via the aftercare cafeteria doors.  Homework is on the front counter if you requested it.

PARKING CONCERNS:

  • Please use the designated parking areas for arrival and dismissal.  The NORTH church parking lot or the car line are the only two options for dropping off in the morning or picking up in the afternoon.
  • Do not park next to the church as Father Mike wants these spaces to be left available for parishioners attending morning Mass.
  • Please do not use the faculty parking areas when the cones are present.  A map is available and was recently sent in the Thursday folder.
  • As you know, gates were installed in 2008 to discourage parking on the school playground or in the carline area for any school, church or sporting event. We were recently informed by the Fire Marshall that we must install a Knox Fire Emergency padlock in conjunction with the school’s lock for the gate. The Knox Fire Emergency padlock will allow these areas to remain accessible to the Fire Department in the event of an emergency.
  • The gates are to be unlocked and opened only during afternoon pick-up between 3:00 and 3:30 Mon-Fri. Parking is prohibited in fire lanes to ensure the access of emergency vehicles.  Additional parking is available in the north church parking lot.  Thanks for helping us to keep everyone’s children SAFE!

TUTORING:  Students are released into aftercare at 4:00.  If parents are not present to collect students from tutoring they are signed into aftercare.  Charges will apply.  Please check the clipboard, and sign out your child if they have been checked into aftercare.  There is not a grace period. Please meet your students in the cafeteria.  We do not allow students to leave through the front doors.  Please consider the safety of the people remaining in the school.  The only access to the building after 3:30 is via the cafeteria doors.

We can not accept homework faxes to deliver to students throughout the day.  Teachers have different classroom policies regarding late work; please abide by the classroom rules.

These are general do’s and don’ts.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.  We want to allow our children to flourish into responsible young men and women.

Thanks so much, Sandy Walkley
