Dear families of St. Elizabeth, thank you for all of your love, support, prayers and understanding in our such deep pain, and please keep praying for us.

All the grades are learning the names of body parts, and the expectations vary with every grade.

Pre-K: We have been working hard mastering some Spanish basics mainly through songs and body movements. They are little busy bodies that love to learn and that is great! They have learned a variety of songs that name body parts.

Kinder: Our phonics are coming along just beautifully and we love singing “Aturi-ta” to learn the body parts’ names.

1st Grade: Wow! In addition to our basics, we have been learning about gender and the articles in Spanish (EL, LA, LOS, LAS). We are sounding out and clapping to break into syllables to be able to read.

2nd Grade: We are busy bees learning how to say time. We know how to say time to the exact hour and will move on to “time after” and “time until.”

3rd Grade: We are concentrating on detailed face parts and will put it together with the verb “to have” in constructing sentences.

4th Grade: We have been writing sentences with a body part, the verbs “tener” or “gustar,” an indefinite article, and an adjective. Students will have an oral test on naming their face body parts before Spring Break.

5th Grade: We are writing sentences with a body part, the verb “tener”, an article, and an adjective.

6th Grade: We are learning many body parts as well as the verb “tener” and the present progressive of some verbs; and, writing sentences with each body part and the verb “to have” (tener) with using correct grammar and sentence structure.

7th Grade: We are learning many body parts as well as the verb “tener” and the present progressive of some verbs; and, writing sentences with each body part and the verb “to have” (tener), using correct grammar and sentence structure.

8th Grade: We are learning many body parts as well as the verb “tener” and the present progressive of some verbs; and, writing sentences with each body part and the verb “to have” (tener), using correct grammar and sentence structure.

Feliz Navidad! As part of our culture unit teachings, grades Pre-K to 5th have been making Mexican ornaments to decorate the hall and the door. Our room, hall and door are very festive and colorful with simple hand made decorations. We will also be watching a short movie on the legend of the Christmas Flower (poinsettia).

Pre-K: We have finished our colors and have made the transition to numbers.

Kindergarten: We are now on our letter “K” in phonics and they are doing great sounding out the letters of our mini-book pictures.

1st Grade: We are learning about body parts, so we know that pie is for (foot) not for (yummy pie). We are working hard sounding each letter out and breaking into syllables to read them out and they are doing a fantastic job.

2nd Grade: Feelings! Oh, we can certainly express our feelings in Spanish. We are reading sentences and trying to translate them from Spanish to English.

3rd Grade: We have been concentrating on the Lord’s Prayer and they sound great! We are also developing descriptive sentences with each insect, which is no easy task when you have to remember the gender and number before determining the adjectives.

4th Grade: Studying the different forms of the verb IR = to go (voy, vas and va). We have finished the workbook exercises and most of us are ready for a test next week.

5th Grade: Studying AR verbs and using them in answering the questions pertaining to what we do in each class.

6th Grade: Using adjectives correctly in describing in a sentence and paragraph form.

7th Grade: Learning the difference between the verbs SER and ESTAR (to be), the rules on how to use them as well as when to use them.

8th Grade: Reviewing the verbs SER and ESTAR and writing a paragraph using both forms of the verb as well as verbs in present progressive form. We are pretending that it is Christmas and describing where we are and what we are doing as well as each member of our families.

Y MUY FELIZ ANO NUEVO!

En la clase de Espanol estamos aprendiendo a:

All of the grades practice the sign of the cross and a prayer in Spanish.

Pre-K and Kinder: All the Spanish basics with songs and body movements. Pre-K is concentrating on learning the colors. We take a color per week and we pronounce it, decode it, and color with it. We are using beads to practice counting up to 20. I will be using some cereal to identify color as well as practice our counting and our sense of touch and taste. Kinder is concentrating on the alphabet and phonics as well as counting with beads from 1-20 and will also be having cereal to identify our senses: sight, touch, taste.

1st Grade: We finished our unit of shapes and we did have lots of fun. We are now on our Family unit learning the family names of our immediate families. We will move on to the days of the week, and three very important words: Hoy (today), Manana (tomorrow) and Ayer (yesterday).

2nd Grade: Second grade has been busy learning the personal pronouns and pretty soon we will start using certain verbs with our pronouns. We will actually be conjugating but it will be done thru games using a verb chart and rewards.

3rd Grade: PETS is one of our favorite subjects in third grade because we have the opportunity to learn the adjectives to describe our pets or our imaginary pets. The first step is to learn the adjectives and sentence structure in Spanish. 2nd step is to learn to translate the introduction sentences. 3rd step is to write sentences describing our pets by color, by shape, and by describing their movements, their emotions and their qualities. The 4th step is to put it all together in a paragraph. The 5th step is to read our paragraph to the class and show our pet’s pictures. We are currently in step three, so we should be finished just before Thanksgiving vacation.

4th Grade: We have been reviewing our AR verbs and making a chart on sixteen different verbs which will be used during our next lessons in our books. This gives us practice on writing, pronouncing and the different conjugations of the verb with all the personal pronouns.

5th Grade: We are also using our AR verb chart as well as the verb “to go” IR and all the places that we go to.

6th Grade: AR verb conjugation in the present is intense in this grade, so we will be using AR, ER and IR verbs for the rest of the year used in many different ways. Writing sentences using correct grammar and sentence structure can be a little challenging.

7th Grade: We are reviewing our verbs and sentence grammar by writing different types of sentences using all kinds of nouns, articles, using two verbs in a sentence and new vocabulary.

8th Grade: We have been practicing our verbs with sentence creativity and verb conjugation in the present. Our next step is to use the correct form of verb conjugation in a paragraph and than we will be moving on to AR verbs in the PAST.

It is so very rewarding to see shining eyes and big smiles at any grade level when they are confident of themselves in using a new language!

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who came to the Jamaica to see our children dance. They were awesome!

Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten
We will be concentrating on our Spanish basics: ABC’s by name and sound, colors, days of the week, and numbers for the remainder of this quarter. All of this is done with body movement and songs. Kinder will start to work on mini-phonic ABC books, which will help with sounding out and reading words.

1st Grade
Have you seen our new books? I would like for these books to go home and for the children to study what we worked on that particular day for ten minutes.

2nd Grade
We will start to review sentence structure in Spanish: article, noun, verb and adjectives. We need to know these in order to start with our AR verbs.

3rd Grade
Sentence structure review using animals as well as colors, numbers, and a few other adjectives.

4th Grade
We have new books and we are in lesson one, which has to do with school supplies, classes and what we do in each class as well as asking the questions, “Where are you going?” and “What are you doing?”

5th Grade
We did great on greetings as well as in our personal introductions. We will continue reviewing lesson 3 and 4, so that we can move on to our next lesson.

6th Grade
We finished lesson one which has to do with determining gender and the article in the nouns. We are now in lesson two, family names and making sentences and nouns plural making all the necessary changes.

7th Grade
We have been reviewing gender, articles, verbs and adjectives as well as the preposition A. We will start with lesson 4 in our books, which has to do with describing.

8th Grade
We are reviewing all the grammar that makes Spanish so fun. We have been writing introductions, sentences, taking dictation and translating sentences, and so far we are doing great!

Please have them all study for at least 10 minutes every night; they have plenty to study.
