Two St. Elizabeth Catholic School alumnae are raising money to benefit childhood cancer research. One of the co-founders, Faustina, who is a current student at Bishop Dunne, is a cancer survivor, and her experience fighting cancer has inspired her to partner with her friend, Elizabeth, to continue fighting on behalf of others.
Their current effort, a fundraising drive on Bonfire Funds, ends in 17 days. In addition to the total shown on the page, https://www.bonfirefunds.com/get-got3, the girls have raised an additional $300 through the GOT3 web site as a part of this campaign. This brings the total to $1,087 in 3 short days.
Here is a message from Elizabeth and Faustina, found on fundraising page:
“We, Faustina and Elizabeth, are two teens (15 year olds) who are the founders of a non-profit formed 1 year ago; Givers of Time, Talents and Treasures (GOT3) – a 501(c)(3) organization. It was the required community service hours at our grade school, which inspired us to form this non-profit for we wanted teens to have a meaningful way to give back to their community. We formed this service organization to support other non-profits and those in need. Faustina, being a cancer survivor and recently experiencing the loss of her 14 year old friend to cancer, has inspired her and Elizabeth to also ensure their non-profit supports childhood cancer research. This decision was made upon learning that only 4% of US federal funding is dedicated to childhood cancer research. The research is needed not only to find cures; but for research for long-term side effects. A study shows that by the time survivors turn 45, 95% of childhood cancer survivors will have a chronic health problem and 80% will have severe or life-threatening conditions. So research is also needed to prevent lifelong damage. We have raised 1.5K to date, made chemo bags for newly diagnosed friends and visit other children with cancer. Meet us at www.got3service.com. All we ask you help spread the word about CHILDHOOD cancer awareness and the need for research funding. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month.
